Omega introduced its “Constellation” line in the early 1950’s starting with the reference 2648. The Constellation was Omega’s top-of-the-line model, offering chronometre certified bumper automatic movements and a medallion on the caseback depicting an observatory with 8 stars - each of which represent the 8 records omega set Geneva observatory trials.
Constellations featured a variety of case and dial designs over the years. Early references in the Constellation lineage featured cases with lyre style lugs. Later, Omega commissioned the famous Gerald Genta to redesign their iconic Constellation model where we saw the "dogleg" constellation introduced.
This example, a dog leg constellation reference 167.005 features a patinated silver sunburst pie pan dial. From a vintage Omega watch market perspective the pie pan dial is easily the most popular and desired dial style. To add to its desirability we have the added crosshair configuration.
Vintage Omega Constellations represent great value in my honest opinion. If we were to compare this example to a Rolex contemporary, lets say a Datejust reference 1600, you get equal brand recognition, a movement that is also chronometer certified, a dial that is objectively more intricate, a case that is more complex to manufacture: all for less than half the price. Now you do give up about 2mm worth of case size but if you are able to get over that I think you get a lot of watch for the money.

CASE: The previously polished 34mm stainless steel case is in good shape. All four lugs retain their factory original facets and beveled edges. The case features its original, thin decagonal crown. The case presents with wear commensurate with its age. The case is completed by the watches original, Omega signed crystal.
DIAL: An original silver sunburst pie pan dial. The dial is in good shape. The The dial presents with an even spotting throughout. There is some heavier staining on the dial between the 2 and 4 o'clock hour markers that is more or less noticeable depending on lighting and viewing angle. The dial sports baton style hour markers and dauphine hands.
MOVEMENT: Omega automatic caliber 551 chronometer certified. Automatic self winding. 24 jewels, 19800 frequency, 50hr power reserve. The watch has just been serviced and comes with a 1 year mechanical warranty on the movement.
BRACELET: Comes on an Omega beads of rice or BOR bracelet.
