Herkimer Diamonds are double-terminated quartz crystals found only in in Herkimer County, New York. They can be clear, smoky, or cloudy and often contain impurities such as water, oil, or methane. Unique to the Mohawk River area in upstate New York, these crystals began forming as long as 500 million years ago. With a ranking of 7 (out of 10) on the Mohs hardness scale, Herkimer diamonds are an excellent choice for daily wear, heirloom, or bridal pieces.
